PYFF invites K-12 students from Maine to submit SHORT FILMS or DOCUMENTARIES.

The submission deadline is now February 24th, 2017. Selected films will be posted on this page and shown at USM Hannaford Hall on Red Carpet Night, March 18, 2017.

The theme for 2017  is “Something Unexpected”

Contest Rules
        • Entries to this category should incorporate the contest theme, SOMETHING UNEXPECTED.  Students can interpret the theme as they wish.
        • Film length SHOULD NOT EXCEED 3 MINUTES including credits.
        • Contest is open to K-12 students from Maine.
        • Entries  welcome from individuals, groups, and classrooms.
        • Entries will be juried and eligible for awards according to age category.
        • All film submissions should be original with language and themes appropriate for elementary school children.
        • Films SHOULD NOT USE COPYRIGHTED MUSIC  without permission of the copyright holder.   Use original or royalty free music instead.  See the Documentary Challenge page for more information.
        • Films should include credits listing the title, music credits, and other contributors.  If preferred, students may choose to use first names only in film credits.
        • Students may submit multiple entries.
        • Adult supervision is permitted but film content should be conceived and produced as independently as possible by student filmmakers.
        • Classroom submissions are intended to be instructional and can be guided by faculty at their discretion.
        • Contact information and signature of a guardian or teacher is required for all films.

You can get feedback on your film technique by submitting draft footage from your documentary by February 1, 2017. Complete the form on our Documentary Challenge page where we have laid out step by step instructions to get you started in documentary filmmaking!

HOW TO ENTER

  1. Upload your film to Vimeo.  For instructions on how to do so, click here.    It is not necessary to set a password. If file is too large to be uploaded to Vimeo for free, you may use another method such as Google Drive or Dropbox, as long as the film can be streamed and downloaded from the link you provide.
  2. Fill out the online entry form and submit.   Form available here.
  3. The submission deadline is February 24, 2017. No late submissions, please.
  4. No fee is required for any film entry to the Young Filmmakers’ Contest.
